Losing her mother again

"... you were *never* my mother, in *any* way, shape, or form!" Sarah almost expected a lightning bolt to strike Mrs. McMillan. She did not expect Mrs. McMillan to strike *her*. The impact of the phone book against Sarah's face knocked her onto the floor. Mrs. McMillan looked down on her. "What are you doing in my house!? Get out!" Sarah got up and ran away from the woman who had never been her mother ... or her host mother. Sarah's face was twisted and numb with pain. She had lost everything now ... her identity ... her family ... even a place to stay ... but at least ... no! Sarah paused in the middle of the sidewalk. The rock! She left it back there! How was she going to get it back from the house that was no longer her home?
