Bunny Whitefield grabbed the wireless phone from the kitchen and answered it. "Hello?" "Oh thank god. Bunny, you're still there." It was a girl's voice, but she didn't recognize it. "Do I know you?" she asked the girl. "It's me. Burt. I mean, I *was* Burt." "You're not making any sense. I don't know anyone named Burt. I think you have me confused with someone else," Bunny said. Then she hung up the phone. ------ "She doesn't remember me," Burnice said, dropping her cellphone to the gym floor. But, of course, Bunny wouldn't. From her point-of-view, her husband was Esmond. And Benny Gates wouldn't have known Burt either.
