Larry opened the door to the Madison house, noticing the two teenaged girls sitting at the breakfast table. One of them, older by maybe a year or two, seemed eerily familiar. One part of his subconscious said "that's Janine, my best friend," and another part said "that used to be me." His body listened to neither part, however, and walked up the stairs into the room of Janine Madison.
In the short time between wake-up and breakfast, Janine's body had quickly regained its youth, now precisely halfway between her previous twenty-six years, and Mikey's eight. Memories and thought patterns, however, were updating more slowly. The most obvious parts of Mikey's life; his family, his general likes and dislikes, those had worked their way in pretty quickly. But other details were taking their time. A photo of her recently deceased grandfather hanging on the kitchen wall caught her eye, and she turned to her sister, Zoe, just long enough to say, "hey, I think I had a dream last night that Grandpa left us a magic--" but just then her eyes glazed over, and she stood up from the table. Larry Madison quickly took her place.
