' '  ' Jon and Karen crossed from the stiffling heat of the parking lot into the cool, sterilized air of the mall's entrance. Jon half expected people to turn and laugh at him right away. But the strangers in the mall carried on normally. Jon looked over to Karen. ' ' '  "What?" ' ' '  "I keep expect to be found out." ' ' '  "To be honest, I keep expecting it too. We just have to act normal." ' ' '  "Yeah." ' ' '  "You're lucky, you look just like a boy. I don't look convincing at all." Karen sighed. ' ' '  "Are you still on that trip? You look fine." ' ' '  Jon and Karen had made thier way to the food court in the center of the mall. ' ' '  "I still don't see Zoe." Karen said. ' ' '  "Yeah, me neither." Jon agreed, "We're going to have to search every store in the place for her." ' ' '  "It would be quicker if we split up." ' ' '  "No, no way." A look of terror crossed Jon's face. ' ' '  "No, I didn't think you'd be too keen on that." ' ' '  The transgendered duo started walking toward the south end of the mall, the Sears. They looked in any store Zoe was likely to be in. They started at the Hot Topic, but no luck. She wasn't in Claire's Boutique or the Wet Seal. She wasn't even in the Gamespot where she sometimes went to tease boys. ' ' '  "Maybe we should split up." Jon sighed. ' ' '  "Wait!"
