Karyn's Dad Gets the Stone

Karyn started to cry. "I can't do this, Daddy." "Honey, what's wrong? You're not having second thoughts, are you?" "I ... I don't know," she said. Did she really *love* Jon? The version of herself in this new reality obviously did, or else she and Jon wouldn't be getting married. But that Karyn didn't exist, as she had been replaced by the Karyn from the previous reality, the one where Jon and Karyn were just friends. "Then what is it?" her father asked. "It's the thing I forgot. I *really* need it," Karyn said. Her father sighed. "Go outside and get in the car. I'll go get it for you." "Uh ... I can do it myself." "Not in that dress. Listen, I can do it in less time. Just tell me what you left upstairs." "Uh ... it's a stone." "A stone?" her father asked, looking oddly at her. "It's for good luck." "I didn't know you were the superstitious type." "I'm getting married, Daddy. I can use all the help I can get." Her father shrugged. "Okay." He turned around and went up the stairs, and then into Jon's bedroom. He looked around the room, noting how messy it was, and then spotted an unusual-looking stone on Jon's desk. He picked it up and looked at it, then put it in his pocket.
