A Heroic Beginning

*Later that Day At Jon's House* Jon heard something growl. It HAD been a while since he had eaten. Jon was about to get up from the couch when he remembered the rock. Jon pulled it out of his pocket. "I wish . . . for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of milk." A light blinked and suddenly, there they were on the coffee table. Jon took a bite from the sandwich and shook his head. Grape jelly. He hated grape jelly. But his stomach was too powerful to ignore, and Jon finished off the sandwhich and milk in record time. He was about to wish for another glass and a strawberry sandwich when his cell rang. "Hey, Jon, are you catching this?" Karyn said. "Catching what?" "Turn on the TV. It's on all the stations." Jon complied. The TV presented a shot came from a helicopter flying over a strip mall and gas station; it was focused on an overturned tanker. Gas was leaking from the trailer, and the cab of the truck was wedged deep into one of the shops in the mall. Something happened. A spark. the gas erupted into flame. Part of the tanker blew apart. "Holy God!" Jon and Karyn said in unision. Then Jon caught the TV announcer. He said something about a daycare center. Karyn gasped. Jon looked at the rock. "I wish I could do something to help." The stone lit up, and Jon vanished from his living room. He was suddenly on the roof of a nearby store, surveying the situation. Jon looked at himself. Tights. Leotard. Boots. Gloves. Cape. Symbol. Superhero. There was just one problem, though. . .
