He was wearing what looks to be the skin of a seal. And nothing underneath the skin either.
Getting up from the chair his hand brushed a puddle of pool water. The skin quickly sucks the water up. The skin merged with his human skin leaving him with a flipper instead of his human hand.
Locked away memories flooded in. "I'm a selkie?" he said aloud to the empty pool.

This reminds me of my story Jon's Wonderful Wish, in which Jon became a Selkie, Thanks for picking up the torch on some Scottish folklore Catprog, I look forward to seeing where this goes.
