Karyn did the whole magic item/shack/stone thing with Sarah yesterday. Jon made the wish for magic items today. So while Jon's memory of the inheritance and tree branch is fake, his memory of wishing for magic items is real.
Besides, I already explained it. Wishing you never found something doesn't mean you never will find it in the future.
