She didn't know what she was going to do until she'd done it, and that might be why it worked. No thought, no preparation, no visible warnings for the McMillan twins to heed. She just leapt, grabbed the hand that was holding the stone, and cried "I wish I was holding this stone in my bedroom by myself!" And that was it. Karyn hadn't even considered the scene she might have made, hadn't paid an ounce of attention to her mother's reaction. She jump-tackled, made her wish before anyone could do anything, and now she was alone in her bedroom. With the stone. For a few seconds, Karyn allowed herself to feel relief, but then a new panic set in: they'd definitely heard the wish. They knew where she had gone. And whatever power they held over her mother, they could almost certainly use it to get into her house. She had some time, but she had to go somewhere else. Where should she go?
