As I arrived home, I could see Dad’s pink minivan parked in the driveway. Hei must already be home after picking up my little brother, Michelle-Anne, from the bois’ elementary school. I sighed a little. Bois at that age were lucky, they didn’t have to deal with the longer hours that the gurls’ school had. I climbed up the small stairs onto the porch and dug out my keys. We had only just recently moved here, with Mom’s success we were able to afford a bigger house in a nicer part of town. It was within walking distance of the school as well. “Dad! I’m home!” I called out as I stepped inside the house and dropped my keys on the floor. Hei returned a greeting and informed me that hei was in the kitchen. “Hi, honey!” hei greeted me cheerily as hei set about preparing tonight’s dinner. “How was your day?” “It was fine,” I replied. I had no intention of sharing the stone with anyone else, not even Dad. It wasn’t as though I didn’t trust hym or anything, it’s more the fact that I wouldn’t even trust a boi with this sort of thing. “What’s for dinner?” I asked as I reached into the fridge and grabbed myself a drink. “Chicken with a white wine sauce,” my father informed me with a smile. “Your mother rang earlier and it looks like shi’s going to be working late again. Jonatha has cheerleading practice after school, so it’ll be just you, me and Michelle-Anne.” I nodded. “Alright,” I turned to head upstairs. “I have some homework to do, give me a shout when dinner is ready.” “Will do, sweetie.” I left the kitchen and headed upstairs. As soon as I reached my room, I closed the door behind me and dropped my school bag on the floor as I dug out the box which held the stone. Lying down on my bed, I took it out of the box to examine it as I pondered the results of Nathen’s careless wish.
