The Large Stone: Jon Gets Clever

When he got outside, Jon stopped and took out a pad of paper and a pencil. "What are you doing?" asked Lola. "I'm gonna try to find out how many people were affected by this thing." "What's the paper for?" "I'm gonna use the stone to find out then erase my memory of it. But before that happens, I'll write down on the paper what I find out. That way other people won't know about the stone." "Oh, Jon. You're so smart." "Uh, yeah." Jon held the fake stone and said "I wish that *only* for the next 10 seconds I would know how many people are affected by this stone." The stone glowed and Jon immediately wrote down what he had learned. After the ten seconds were up, Jon suddenly forgot what he was thinking about. He looked down at the paper and saw that he had written down something: WITHIN 50 FEET. "Whew. Good thing it wasn't more." Jon put the paper and pencil back into his school bag and headed to the bus stop, where Karyn was waiting. Jon wondered how his relationship might have changed with her, now that he had Lola as a lover.
