The Obvious Stone: Yukio Meshida

Melissa turned and spotted another teenage girl. It took her a moment to recognize her. She was used to the voice, but the girl attached to it was very different. It was Yukio Meshida, the foreign kid she often made fun of. But she was no longer foreign. Not only was she speaking perfect English, she was dressed in designer clothes. In fact, Melissa even recognized the top as something similar to one that *she* owned. Or used to own. It was undeniable that Yukio had suddenly taken a place at the top of the social ladder. A place that Melissa used to occupy. "That *is* you," Yukio said. "Why is everything different?" "I don't know. But I'm meeting up with some of my friends to find out. You wanna come along?" Normally, Melissa wouldn't make such an offer to the Asian girl, but Yukio was different now ... or at least *potentially* different. But it didn't matter, because Yukio replied by saying "Why would I want to go with *you*?" She looked a little disgusted, being around Melissa. "Huh?" "If I'm going to find out what's going on, it's not going to come from a bunch of losers." Then she walked off. Melissa's jaw nearly hit the ground. *Losers?* she thought.
