Ignorance Is Bliss

"Why are you staring at me!?" cried Sarah Smith. The eyes of everyone in study hall were aimed at her and Melissa McMillan. Everyone *knew* that the two girls had just been created out of Sarah McMillan and Melissa Smith. Sarah looked at her pale, freckled arms. Part of her felt that those tiny brown dots didn't belong there. The other part - the Melissa Smith part - did. *I'm a freak*, thought Sarah. *We're* both *freaks!* "I think you should have specified exactly *what* 'we' - meaning us and *them* - were supposed to know," said Karyn. "At least they still don't notice us," said Jon. "That wish can't be reversed." "Nor can their knowledge." Karyn almost felt sorry for the new Sarah and Melissa. The study hall was now out of control. Everyone but Jon and Karyn rushed up to the merged duo. Science geek Jaye Duncan couldn't resist the temptation to study the "freaks." Others barraged the girls with questions and insults. "I wish they didn't know!" Jon dropped the device. It fell onto the floor, where it spun and fired beams of light at the feet of all the students. Now *they* didn't know, because *they* weren't *them* anymore.
