You're not alone. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time. It's just so damn *petty* and childish, and that makes it especially grating when the characters doing the abusing are berating the abused for being "immature" or somesuch - yeah, pot, meet kettle! Particularly when it's obviously the author projecting their own issues (real or otherwise) onto a set of characters apparently engineered just for that purpose...it's dehumanization-by-proxy of the people they think have wronged them, and often for the *pettiest* slights. You see that kind of thing in amateur web fiction all the time, but lately it seems to be cropping up frequently even in "real" media written by people who *ought* to know that part of being a good writer is trying to give fair consideration to *all* of your characters, even the ones you don't like... This is why I've put as much effort as I have into trying to make oft-abused characters like Sarah and Tiffany sympathetic in their own way, and giving even the bad people a chance to turn things around...it's as much a reaction against this kind of thing as it is finding good story material in them...
