'Sokay, I think we all have that instinct - if not through a character, then (at least in my case) through the narrative itself. It's not a *bad* thing, inherently - it makes it a lot easier to stay emotionally invested in what you're writing, and that clear investment on the part of the author is often what keeps the reader engaged. It just needs to be kept in a certain amount of check, is all.
