Zoe feels their pain

"I know ..." Tears filled Zoe's eyes. She had never felt so low before. She held the stone tightly, believing she would never touch it again. She didn't deserve to. And soon she'd be completely unable to. "I wish I were like Jon and Karyn." The world shimmered. When the light dissipated, Jon and Karyn could barely recognize Zoe. They expected her to be handless in a wheelchair, and she was. They didn't imagine that she wouldn't be a Goth anymore. How could she put on jewelry without hands? How could she pick up the stone and make things better? "That's just *great,*" grumbled Jon. "Now we're *all* helpless until Mom comes back." The stone lay on the floor, out of the reach of their six stumps.
