ABANDONED: A Loud Crash

Charlie walked the empty streets for what seemed like hours, but it was a welcome change to the constant crawling he did in the tunnel. There really was no one. No people, no cars, there weren't even any animals. "Where *is* everyone?" he asked out loud. Suddenly, there was a loud crash, somewhere off to his right. He cringed at the sound, then looked in that direction, but all he saw was a group of buildings. No movement. Could it be that maybe he wasn't alone after all? He ran towards the buildings. Hopefully, he'd be able to get to the bottom of this. People and cars don't just disappear.
