He was going to ask Zoe about their ages, but before he could, they arrived at their first stop, which was the house belonging to Karyn Black. It was just as he figured. A moment later, Karyn got into the car. "Something wrong, Jon?" she asked. "You look worried." Jon leaned over towards her and whispered "Zoe made me leave the stone at home. Anyone could pick it up and use it." "Maybe we should forget about going to the mall then. We can hang out with Zach and Danny some other time." "Wait a minute," Jon said. "Zach and Danny? Who are they?" Karyn looked oddly at him. "They're our friends. You know. Zach Jones and Danny Foster?" Jon knew Zach and Danny from school. Danny was a jock and Zach was typically known as a class clown, but Jon and Karyn were most definitely *not* friends with them. "Karyn, we're friends with Tim Brant and Pete Roberts." "Tim and Pete? Those two emo boys?" "Emo boys? What the hell are you talking about? They're no more emo than ..." Jon stopped as he realized what must have happened. Somehow, the wish that caused Zoe to age also caused other indirect changes - side effects, for a lack of a better term. And now his friends weren't his friends (except for Karyn) and people who weren't his friends now *were*. Who knew what other changes might have happened? "Jon, are you okay?"
