When Jon finally arrived home, it was obvious that his sister was different. She was no longer Goth, for one thing. But further than that, she was dressed in a very neat and plain way ... and she looked a lot meeker than usual. He had never seen her like this.
"Jon!" he heard his mother yell.
He twirled around and saw her in the kitchen. She was glaring at him. *What did I do?* he thought to himself.
She marched towards him and slapped him across the face. He touched his face, then turned and glared at *her*. "What the hell was *that* for?"
Then she slapped him again. "Don't you *dare* take that tone with *me*, young man. Now get upstairs and change out of those clothes. How many times have I told you not to wear T-shirts and jeans? You should always dress professionally when going to school." Then she turned towards Zoe. "Right Zoe?"
"Yes, ma'am," Zoe said shyly, nodding her head in agreement.
Jon stared at his sister. Suddenly, he preferred her as a Goth. The way she was now, it was like she was broken or something. What exactly did his mom do to her to make her this way?
Jon's mom grabbed his arm forcefully and yanked him towards the stairs. "I said go change!" she yelled. "Do I have to ground you again, you insolent brat?"
*Again?* Jon thought. He had never gotten grounded in his *life*.
Without any opposition (he didn't want to get slapped again), Jon obeyed his mother and went up to his room. Maybe there was some way to fix his last wish. He certainly didn't want his mom to stay this way. She had turned into an uncompromising bitch. There *had* to be a way to fix this.
