As hopeful she had been for this process to go smoothly and without issue, Carol had to go do something she couldn't have predicted in the first place. Sure, that book had been given to her and Norman as a gag gift. There was no way that book could actually hold some kind of power over a person. This could prove to be a thorn to her plans.
