it depends on the type of swap

I suppose it depends on the type of swap really. If it's a personality swap then I prefer that neither of the swappers are aware (perhaps like a hypnosis swap). If it's a life swap then I then I like at least one person to aware. I am enjoying the series that we are doing together as it's exactly the sort of thing that I like.
