They fired.
Somehow, Karyn managed to duck just in time. The beams whizzed last where her head had been and struck the food court wall, leaving a black scorch mark where they struck. While there was a great amount of screaming, thankfully no one was harmed.
When Karyn looked back up again, the Sontarans were gone, and so was Jon.
