Unknown to Jon, grandpa was mistaken about the stone's area of effect. The stone had no set limit to its AOE; the limit was determined by the person holding the stone. The stone absorbed power from its bearer. Grandpa was an ordinary person, and ordinary people possessed only a small amount of magical power. Jon, however, was not ordinary. He had many ancestors who were mages, and what Jon possessed was a large amount of aether. Magical power was the weakest energy the stone could utilize, mana was intermediate, and aether was the strongest power the stone could harness. Jon and his siblings were among the strongest mages in the world, but this fact held little significance to them, as they were unaware of it. Jon's wish extended further than he realized.
