Mrs. Parker picked up the phone. "Hello?" "Hi, Mom." It was Jon. "Jon, I'm *so* sorry," she said, thinking that he was calling because of *the change*. "What are you sorry about?" Jon acted confused. "Well, because you're now a Caucasian." "Mom? Are you okay?" "Huh?" "When was ever *not* a Caucasian?" Mrs. Parker was getting confused herself. "Listen, Mom. I just called to tell you that I'm gonna eat with Karyn here at the mall. I'll be home later. Okay?" "Uh, sure." "Thanks. Bye, Mom." Mrs. Parker put down the phone. Apparently, Jon didn't even *notice* that anything was different. But how could that be?
