"Put it back, Sydney," he told her. *No*, she said. Apparently, her period of being agreeable had ended. *We're going to go for a walk,* she told him, picking the stone up. *I wish you'd do what I say and stop telling me what to do.* The stone flashed. "Pretty," she said. "I sound different," she said, noticing she was suddenly speaking perfect English. Jon tried to reply, but it came out as a growl, then a whimper. Sydney interpreted it as, *That thing is dangerous.* She put the stone down where she'd found it. "Come on, we're going for a walk," she said, excited. She'd see what these new hind legs and 'hands' could do.
