The Cloud: It Happens Again

Zoe's attention was diverted from her thoughts when she heard someone coming down the stairs. She went to check out who was there when suddenly that weird mist appeared again. It spun around her like a funnel, keeping her from moving. "Whoever's there ... don't come near me. I think ..." she began to say, but then found that she was unable to talk. She moved her lips, but her voice was hoarse. Apparently whoever was coming downstairs didn't hear her, or at least did but didn't heed her warning.
