Jon could clearly envision Stacey in his mind. She had been quite good-looking, and if things were different ... but they weren't, and he wanted to find her for far more important reasons. Looking up at the white-garbed people working around his bed, Jon asked, "Would you happen to know who used to take care of us? There was a girl -" "What kinda question is that?" growled one of the nurses. "Your parents, of course, before *the accident.*" Jon raised his stumps in bewilderment. "Accident?" "Yeah. You think you were *born* like that?" "That's enough, Nurse Hachette," advised a doctor. "They've been through more than enough. That poor boy must still be in denial." "Denial of *what?"* asked Jon. "What happened to me?" Karyn sighed. He wasn't the only one in this mess. "What happened to *us!?*" she added. "Yeah!" Zoe sounded like her old annoyed self again. The doctors and nurses glanced at each other, waiting to see who would be the first to say the obvious.
