Someone else did, in fact, find the stone. It was Ms. Johnson, the girls' gym teacher that had caught Jon and Sarah fighting in the girls' locker room.
After the fight, she had noticed the stone laying on the ground. So, she picked it up and took it to the "lost and found" box in the main office.
