Jon looked closer at the stone. It wasn't glowing *now*. But maybe it was all just his imagination. The stress of being fired and all that. He gathered the rest of his stuff and was about to leave his cubicle, when he saw Joseph walking towards him. "Stay right there," he said. "What? Why?" Jon asked. "There was a mistake. Ms. McMillan wanted me to tell you that you're *not* fired." "I'm not?" "No. I guess your file got mixed up with someone else's." "You mean someone else is getting fired instead of me?" "Yeah." "Do you know who it is?" "Nope." Jon walked back into his cubicle and sat down in his chair. He felt like he just dodged a bullet. But in this company, it didn't really mean anything. He could just as easily get fired the next day or the next week. It was almost like playing a lottery. Only no one wants to get the prize. Slowly, he put his stuff back, until he was left with the stone he had just received. He remembered looking at it after it glowed. Well, allegedly glowed. That could have been just his imagination. Then he thought back to before it glowed and remembered wishing that he wasn't fired. *Wait a minute,* Jon thought. Could it be that his wish actually came true? Jon didn't believe in magic, but the proof of its existence was undeniable. He wished that he wasn't fired and the stone glowed, and then he discovered that he wasn't fired. He looked down at the stone, wondering if other wishes could come true too.
