A Call from Karyn

"Sydney, are you up there?" Linda Madison called. "Yes," she called back. "Karyn is on the phone for you." "Just a minute!" She called. She patted Jon idly. Sydney loved Jon, even though he was a handful sometimes. She went and picked up. "Hey, Karyn..." "Syd, where have you been all day?" "My mom dropped me off at the mall. She wanted me to get out of the house," Sydney said. "Why didn't you call me?" "I forgot, and then I ran into Leonard and his friend, and tagged along for a movie." "Leonard...Drullers?" She sounded surprised. "What about it?" "I mean, Leonard is nice and all..." Sydney rolled her eyes. "I saw a movie with him, Karyn. We're just friends. We've been neighbors for years. He's sweet." "I'm not complaining about Leonard...I'm just asking." Sydney thought about it. She did like Leonard. She'd never really thought of the idea of dating him though. Not that he'd asked though...she paused, thinking back to that afternoon, and suddenly... "I...think he was trying to ask me out after the movie, but lost his nerve."
