Police Capt. Henry Melograno was not having one of his better days. He had two detectives running around out of state. One had been requested for detached service by the FBI the other was wanted for grand theft auto. By noon things really got fun, A video of a Savannah police officer shooting an unconscious black man and stealing things from his pockets was released by CNN. By one PM Savannah had reported additional 14 shootings involving police officers, 4 dead police officers, 2 of which were found stuffed in police station lockers. As news came from Savannah rumors of potential race riots flared in almost every major city. The body of the man on the tape was identified as Mr. William Simmons of West Philadelphia. Mrs. Simmons was on the 5:00 news blaming a police conspiracy for her husband death. She also told of being called by a policewoman 2 hours her husband was shot. When asked the name of the officer she said, "I don't remember I think it began with an R." This being a Sunday in the normally slow news month of August resulted in him spending the evening briefing the Police Chief and the Mayor in preparation for an interview on Nightline. Fortunately news that the FBI was looking for Mr. Simmons and a Philadelphia police officer named Register was not widely available till the evening news. The coroners office following up some off the wall hunch phoned in by Gould had found something that through the CDC for a loop. And to top it all off the FBI would not let him talk with Gould.
